Getting your Marriage License in New York State

Where do you get a marriage license?
A couple who intends to be married in New York State must apply in person for a marriage license to any town or city clerk in the state. The application for a license must be signed by both applicants in the presence of the town or city clerk.

Is there a waiting period?
Yes. Although the marriage license is issued immediately, the marriage ceremony may not take place within 24 hours from the exact time that the license was issued.

How much does the license cost?
If the marriage license is issued by a town or city clerk in New York State outside of New York City, it costs $40. This fee includes the issuance of a Certificate of Marriage Registration. This certificate is automatically sent by the issuing clerk to the applicants within 15 calendar days after the completed license is returned by the officiant (person who performs the marriage ceremony).

Is a premarital physical exam required?
No premarital examination or blood test is required to obtain a marriage license in New York State.

Payment for Officiant Services

When do I pay for my Officiant services?
Basic elopement services require non-refundable payment in-full at the time of booking. Your date is not confirmed until payment has been received. Full service wedding officiant services require a $100 non-refundable deposit due at the time of booking. Balance is due no later than 10-days prior to the earliest event date.

What payment methods do you accept?
Our preferred and fastest method of payment is by Venmo. For business payments, Venmo charges a 1.9% service fee which is also added to your total amount due. In order to offer the convenience of electronic payments, these fees must be passed on. If you prefer to pay by check/money order, your date will be confirmed upon receipt and bank clearance. Cash is certainly accepted if you are local to Zone A and we are able to meet in person.
